Destroying the Mrsa Super-bug With Manuka Honey

Category: Uncategorizedadmin @ 9:48 am

Recent studies show an increase in bacterial infections that are resistant to antibiotics. In order to combat these new strains, medical professionals are resorting to the use of Manuka Honey as a viable alternative to traditional forms of medicine. Used for medical purposes thousands of years ago, the antibacterial and antimicrobial properties of honey have been rediscovered by the medical profession where conventional drugs have been found ineffective. In addition to having antibacterial and antimicrobial properties, Manuka Honey has been known to have anti-fungal properties and anti-inflammatory properties as well, making it an extremely valuable resource.

Not all honey is the same as Dioscorides and Aristotle discovered thousands of years ago. In the wake of all the reported staph infections, scientists have been researching the antimicrobial properties of Manuka Honey against MRSA which is a bacteria that is resistant to antibiotics. Even though regular honey contains some level of antibacterial activity, only Manuka Honey is powerful enough to destroy antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria such as MRSA. Manuka Honey comes from the hives of honeybees that gather nectar from the flowers of the manuka bush (Leptospermum scoparium) which grows wild throughout New Zealand. Manuka Honey has been tested for antibacterial activity and contains a property found only in honey made from the Leptospermum plants. This property is called the “unique manuka factor” (UMF) which produces a more potent antibacterial action. This property also makes Manuka Honey more stable and active in all situations, unlike other types of honey which loses its effectiveness under certain conditions, such as being exposed to heat or light.

Manuka Honey has been used successfully in wound dressings and is now being used by a company called Honeymark as a main ingredient in their health care products. Honeymark has recently hired BioScreen, a laboratory in California to conduct third-part product testing to certify their products’ effectiveness in destroying MRSA. “As a wound dressing, Active UMF Manuka Honey reduces inflammation, swelling and pain quickly,” says Frank Buonanotte, CEO of Honeymark International. “This healing occurs much faster in conditions where standard antibiotic and antiseptic treatment was not working. In addition to quickening the healing process, another benefit of using Manuka Honey on wounds is that it doesn’t cause tissue damage or scaring as other antiseptics do.”

There are many reports of Staph infections being completely inhibited by Manuka Honey. Manuka Honey is also an antioxidant, containing flavanoids with anti-carcinogenic properties. It’s important to note that these properties do not exist in other types of honey. Honeymark uses Active Manuka Honey with a UMF rating of 10+ to ensure its effectiveness, says Buonanotte.

In addition to being extremely effective in treating infected wounds, Manuka Honey has also been used for other health conditions such as ring worm, athlete’s foot, burns, arthritis, eczema and other forms of dermatitis. Discover the Benefits of Using Manuka Honey Face Gel

Category: Uncategorizedadmin @ 9:51 am

Manuka honey is extracted from nectar gathered from the Manuka Bush (Leptosermum scoparium plant) native to New Zealand and has many uses. It is cleaned and processed to ensure its purity. Because of its anti-bacterial activity it is often applied to serious infections caused by cuts and lacerations to the skin, even boils and other skin disorders can benefit from its application.

Doing a honey facial using manuka honey face gel applied directly to the skin, improves the quality of the skin because of the healing properties of the special enzymes in the honey; it also has amazing antioxidant and antibacterial properties.

Not all manuka honey ingredients in honey facial skin care products are equal! A special process is necessary to convert active manuka honey to powder for use in skin care creams without losing any of its active properties. Also research has found that active manuka honey from New Zealand has greater levels of antioxidants than any other type of honey and stimulates the immune system.

Scientists have discovered a special antibacterial property called the Unique Manuka Factor (UMF) only in certain types of manuka bushes from New Zealand. Honey that is confirmed to have a level of 10 UMF or more is given a rating and is referred to as ‘Active’. This honey when applied topically helps support the skins renewal process. The skin’s collagen becomes stronger, and is one of the factors responsible for our skins elasticity; the honey’s natural antioxidants also protect us from free radicals.

Manuka honey can be effective in healing minor skin problems such as dry cracked skin, dermatitis, acne, plus more serious skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema, it penetrates deep into the skin, rejuvenating it and helping it to look softer and younger. A New Zealand natural skin care company has combined active manuka honey with other naturally occurring ingredients to create a range of skin care creams.

Manuka Honey can be sourced from several manufacturers in New Zealand however one particular company uses it in many of the different skin creams they have available, particularly in their manuka honey face gel.

Because manuka honey has great healing and general skin care benefits, consider including it in your regular skin maintenance regime. There’s plenty of information on the Internet on manuka honey if you’re interested. The University of Waikato in New Zealand has a wealth of information and reports if you’re the technical type.

We all know how natural varieties of honey are good for us and can enhance our daily lives. If you haven’t tried a manuka honey facial yet, why not give one a try you might be pleasantly surprised.

Mike Iredale believes both young and old can benefit and improve their facial appearance using natural anti aging, anti wrinkle skin care products, and live a longer healthy lifestyle using natural supplements daily. To learn more, Go to ==> http://www.eternal-skin-care.com today.

The Miraculous Umf Manuka Honey

What is UMF Manuka Honey?

Unique Manuka Factor or commonly known as UMF is the only worldwide standard in identifying and measuring the antibacterial strength or quality of some strains of Manuka. It is a guarantee that the honey being sold has the special UMF antibacterial property and a UMF rating of 10 is the minimum recognised. Ordinary manuka has only the hydrogen peroxide antibacterial property which is common to most types of honey, whereas UMF Manuka has both the natural hydrogen peroxide antibacterial property and its own natural UMF antibacterial property, giving it increased antibacterial potency. The UMF property is very stable, unlike the hydrogen peroxide antibacterial property common in most honey which is easily destroyed by heat, light as well as certain enzymes in body serum.

UMF Manuka, also known as “Medihoney” in some pharmacies, is the preferred honey for wound dressing and other special therapeutic uses and studies are showing Manuka with high levels of UMF could be very effective in helping relieve stomach ulcer symptoms and gastritis, and sore throats, and when applied topically, in assisting the natural cure of skin ulcers, wounds, burns, boils, cracked skin. That is also why many skincare products also contain UMF manuka as a special ingredient and promise positive benefits from their regular application on the skin.

UMF is not in the nectar of all Manuka flowers, which are known as Leptospermum scoparium and belong to the the Tea Tree bushes found only in New Zealand’s coastal areas. Some Manuka bushes do not produce honey with the UMF property every year, and the concentrations of UMF can vary from batch to batch and year to year. The reason why only some Manuka honeys have the unique UMF antibacterial property is not yet known. It could be from a subspecies of Manuka or due to some environmental factor such as soil type. In the shop, you will find the varying UMF strengths – UMF 10, UMF 15, UMF 20, UMF 25, and the higher the UMF, the more expensive is the honey. All genuine UMF manuka honeys from New Zealand are packed into jars and labelled with a registered trademark UMF® by licensed companies, and have a rating of UMF 10 or more. These licensed users of the UMF® label in New Zealand have to meet standards of regular monitoring and auditing of their honey quality. So if you come across an UMF honey which is packed in New Zealand and is labelled UMF 8, you should know something is amiss.

Another reason why Manuka honey, which is available in most Kiwi homes, is favoured by so many honey fans is that it has a higher than normal conductivity, which is an indirect measurement of mineral content of a honey — about 4 times that of normal flower honeys. I particularly love the taste of Manuka – it has a lot of depth and a unique unforgetable foresty aroma stands out amongst the honey varieties. I often find myself mixing a tablespoon of the honey with warm water or hot tea whenever I experience sore throat, cough, cold or flu symptoms, or when feel “heatiness” in my body. Now, the honey shops here (in Singapore) also sell New Zealand made Manuka honey lozenges for soothing the throat. I paid about 9 Sing dollars (about 6 US dollars) for a pack of 20 such honey drops with UMF 20+ and propolis which contained very high level of bioflavonoids. Its ant-inflammatory properties worked perfect in curing my phelmy throat and it was delicious despite that it tasted a bit bitter due to the propolis, and it gave me a slight numbing effect on my tongue as I sucked it.

Mrsa Treatment With Manuka Honey

Category: Uncategorizedadmin @ 9:37 am

As data on the prevalence of MRSA continues to mount, hospitals are taking an aggressive approach in preventing the spread of this resilient infection.  Statistics indicate that about 2 million patients develop infections while being treated in the hospital every year and 100,000 of them die from the infection.

According to the Center for Disease Control, the proportion of infections that are antimicrobial-resistant has been growing each year.  In 1974, MRSA infections accounted for 2% of the total number of staph infections; in 1995 it was 22% and in 2004 it was 63%.  In fact, a report issued by the Association for Professionals in Infection Control found that MRSA infections are 8.6 times more prevalent than previous estimates and that the antibiotic-resistant bacteria is found in all wards throughout most hospitals.

Studies show that 30-50% of the population carry MRSA on their bodies.  The fact is, MRSA can coexist on the surface of the skin very harmoniously without causing any significant health complications.  It’s only when the bacteria penetrates the skin by way of a wound or puncture where it can become harmful.

Despite the grim reality of MRSA infecting our communities, there is a viable treatment solution.  A special type of honey found in New Zealand and certain parts of Australia has proven to be effective in destroying this resilient bacterium.  It’s not so much the bees in this region that are special, rather than the flowers that grow on the Manuka bush.  These flowers produce a unique nectar that contains extraordinary antibacterial properties.  The bees use this nectar to create what has become known as Manuka Honey.

It has been discovered that Manuka Honey contains healing properties not found in other types of honey.  Manuka Honey destroys MRSA by drawing moisture out of the bacterial cell, making it impossible for them to survive.  This is very similar to what happens when you pour salt on a slug.

Honey is one of the only substances in the world that does not expire.  Food spoil when bacteria begins to form on it.  However, bacteria cannot survive in honey.  Honey discovered in ancient Egyptian tombs that were preserved for over 4,000 years has even been found to be suitable for consumption.  The absence of bacteria in honey is mostly due to the presence of hydrogen peroxide.  In fact, before antibiotics were invented, honey was commonly used for medical purposes, particularly for dressing wounds.

A rating system administered by the Active Manuka Honey Association in New Zealand calculates the potency of Manuka Honey on a scale from 0-30.  It is generally accepted that Manuka Honey with a UMF rating of 10 or higher is considered active and suitable for therapeutic use.  The higher the UMF rating, the higher the antibacterial activity.  However, patients have reported sensitivity to Manuka Honey with extraordinarily high UMF ratings (i.e. UMF 20-30).  Even UMF 10 Manuka Honey is potent enough to kill MRSA and heal Staph infections.

When examined under a microscope, it has been discovered that MRSA cells form a septum down the middle, dividing the cell into two separate cells.  This happens every 30 minutes.  However, Manuka Honey has been found to interfere with the cell division cycle, stopping it dead in its tracks.  This has now been considered a major breakthrough in the medical industry.

In summation, active Manuka Honey is one of the only natural substances in the world that is capable of efficiently destroying MRSA and other antibiotic-resistant bacteria.  As a result, Manuka Honey is now being used as a main ingredient in antiseptic products.  One New York-based manufacturer of skin care products is taking advantage of the natural antimicrobial properties of Manuka Honey.  Honeymark has developed a First Aid Antiseptic Lotion that is effective in treatment MRSA and other bacterial infections.

“Our First Aid Antiseptic Lotion is our best selling product, specifically because of its ability to kill MRSA and heal Staph infections,” says Frank Buonanotte, CEO of Honeymark International.  “With experts predicting that new antibiotic-resistant strains of bacteria will inevitably emerge in the future, Manuka Honey will be considered an extremely valuable resource.”  As a natural ingredient, Manuka Honey has been found to have no negative side effects when used for medicinal purposes.

Understanding Medical Grade Manuka Honey

Category: Uncategorizedadmin @ 9:36 am

Honey had been used for medical purposes for thousands of years, prior to the advent of modern-day medicine.  Honey’s medicinal qualities are attributed to the presence of hydrogen peroxide, low acidity levels, osmotic action and floral nectar components.   There are many different types of honey.  The differences are predicated on the floral nectar used by the bees that produced the honey.  Manuka Honey from New Zealand is used for medicinal purposes because it contains more healing properties than any other type of honey.  However, not all Manuka Honey is suitable for medical use.    Manuka Honey’s antibacterial potency varies from batch-to-batch.  The only way to know for sure whether a particular batch of Manuka Honey is of medical grade quality, it must be laboratory tested.  This is the responsibility of the company that is packaging the honey.   The only honey that should be used for medical purposes is active UMF Manuka Honey.  UMF is an acronym for Unique Manuka Factor and is followed by a number which indicates the antibacterial strength of the Manuka Honey.  UMF is the authorized seal and registered trademark of the Active Manuka Honey Industry in New Zealand.  It can only be applied to the of honey with a laboratory test result of UMF 10 or higher (which is equivalent to 10% phenol).  Results obtained from 50% dilution (low acidity test) can not be used for claiming UMF activity.   In New Zealand, Manuka Honey production is regulated by the Active Manuka Honey Industry.  The UMF trademark can only be used by UMF licensed suppliers who meet set criteria which include regular monitoring and auditing of the quality of their honey. UMF Manuka Honey from a New Zealand supplier that is licensed to use the UMF trademark  is the only honey guaranteed to have the special UMF healing properties and be of the same medical-grade quality that is referred to in research studies and clinical trials.   When the UMF trademark is listed on the label of a Manuka Honey jar, it is a guarantee that the Manuka Honey has the special UMF antibacterial property to the level indicated on the label (i.e. UMF 16). This guarantee only applies to honey that comes from New Zealand suppliers that are licensed to use the UMF trademark.   Genuine UMF Manuka Honey must comply with the following criteria:   1. It has the UMF trademark clearly stated on the front label.
2. It is packed into jars and labelled in New Zealand.
3. It is from a New Zealand supplier licensed to use the UMF trademark.
4. It has the supplier’s license number on the label.
5. It has a rating of UMF10 or higher.   If Manuka Honey meets the above listed criteria, it is guaranteed to be active, medical-grade Manuka Honey that is suitable for therapeutic use.  If not, the antibacterial potency of the Manuka Honey is questionable.   To purchase medical-grade Manuka Honey, call 1-866-427-7329 or visit www.HoneymarkProducts.com.

Using Manuka Honey as a Natural Healing Agent

Category: Uncategorizedadmin @ 9:43 am

Scientists and chemists have combed the far reaches of the earth in search of natural ingredients that can be used for medicinal purposes.  One of the more recent discoveries is that of a unique type of honey that is so effective in treating certain health conditions that it has even outperformed medicine in some cases.  This medical-grade honey is known as bio-active Manuka Honey.

Manuka Honey is a premium mono-floral honey produced by bees that feed on the nectar of the flowers that grow on the Manuka bush, which is indigenous to New Zealand.  It has been discovered that honey made from this nectar contains certain plant-derived components that are very effective in treating a wide spectrum of health conditions.

When taken orally, Manuka Honey is effective in treating stomach aches, stomach ulcers, sore throats, acid reflux disease, gastritis, irritable bowel syndrome, cold and flu symptoms, etc.  Manuka Honey can also be used topically on the skin to treat conditions such as acne, wounds, burns, wrinkles, eczema, ringworm and even MRSA Staph infections.

Some people are under the misconception that if they consume Manuka Honey by taking it orally, it can be effective in treating some of these topical conditions.  Even though Manuka Honey has many health benefits when ingested, it has to be applied directly to the affected area to work.  For example, to treat an infected wound, Manuka Honey has to come in direct contact with the bacteria that is causing the infection.  Manuka Honey doesn’t work the same way that antibiotics do, so for some uses, Manuka Honey needs to be applied to the skin.

If the idea of putting honey on your skin is not desirable, a Long Island-based manufacturer of skin care products called Honeymark imports Manuka Honey from New Zealand and blends it into their products for a much more user-friendly application.  For example, Manuka Honey is effective in treating Athlete’s Foot.  However, smearing Manuka Honey all over your foot might be somewhat uncomfortable and impractical.  Honeymark’s Anti-Fungal Solution contains Manuka Honey but is a liquid-based product so that it can be easily applied to the skin, without the sticky mess.

“Using honey as a medicine is no longer considered a home remedy,” says Frank Buonanotte, CEO of Honeymark International.  “Even though honey has been used for medical purposes in many cultures for thousands of years, Manuka Honey from New Zealand has been found to have additional healing properties not found in other types of honey, making it a viable treatment alternative to expensive, and in some cases, ineffective medication.”

Honeymark plans to increase its line of Manuka Honey skin care products in the first quarter of 2009.  Such new products will include a Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Wash and Moisturizing Hand and Body Lotion, all of which will contain Manuka Honey.  Honeymark also plans on releasing their own brand of pure Manuka Honey for consumers interested in utilizing Manuka Honey for internal purposes.

Buy Manuka Honey Wholesale

Category: Uncategorizedadmin @ 9:50 am

Honeymark International is well-known for its unique line of high-end skin care products that utilizes Manuka Honey as a natural healing agent.  Manuka Honey has many health benefits when used for medicinal purposes, both internally and topically on the skin.  When taken orally, Manuka Honey is a welcomed alternative to medicine since it tastes better, is less expensive, has no negative side effects and is more effective in most circumstances.

Many retail store managers have found themselves being badgered by their customers to carry this special type of honey, forcing them to scour the earth in search of Manuka Honey distributors to help accommodate this demand.  Honeymark has met that demand in short order by supplying the highest quality Manuka Honey available.

Manuka Honey is produced by honeybees that utilize the nectar of the flowers that grow on the Manuka Tea Tree, which is indigenous to New Zealand.  Importing Manuka Honey from New Zealand can be quite costly and could take weeks.  When finding a quality Manuka Honey to sell, it is also important to take the antibacterial potency into consideration.  Some Manuka Honey suppliers sell honey that has a low or questionable UMF rating which can render the honey less effective from a medicinal perspective.  This low-grade Manuka Honey doesn’t have any more healing properties than the ordinary honey that you would find in your local supermarket.

Conversely, Manuka Honey with an extraordinarily high UMF rating is not desirable either.  Manuka Honey with a UMF rating of 20 or higher is very rare, extremely expensive and overly potent.  In fact there have been reports of some people experiencing sensitivity to Manuka Honey that is that potent.  The most ideal Manuka Honey is a medium range with a UMF rating of 10-18.  Manuka Honey with a UMF rating of less than 10 may not have enough antibacterial properties to effectively treat more serious conditions.  Honeymark carries active Manuka Honey UMF 16+ which is ideal for therapeutic use.

Another thing to consider is that if a Manuka Honey brand does not indicate on the label that it is from New Zealand or doesn’t display a UMF rating or Methylglyoxal level, its potency might be questionable.

A few highlights of Honeymark brand Manuka Honey are as follows:

Our supplier in New Zealand is a registered member of the Active Manuka Honey Association which ensures that our Manuka Honey is tested for its antibacterial properties and allows us to legally display the UMF trademark on our label;  Our Manuka Honey is UMF 16+ which is an active, medical-grade Manuka Honey and idea for medicinal use;  Our Manuka Honey is reasonably priced; Since we are located in the U.S., shipping charges are far less expensive than importing Manuka Honey directly from New Zealand; Our containers include barcodes; Honeymark is a well-recognized brand and is known in the industry and to consumers as Manuka Honey specialists.

“Any store that is currently selling Manuka Honey knows that it has a tendency to fly off the shelves,” says Frank Buonanotte, CEO of Honeymark International.  “It is just a matter of time until its healing power is recognized by everyone.  The results of using Manuka Honey for medical purposes is far too impressive for it not to explode into a retail sensation.”  In addition to its exceptional medicinal value, Manuka Honey is also very tasty and can be used in tea, on toast, etc.  It can also be used as an excellent alternative to sugar.

Does Manuka Honey Really Work?

Category: Uncategorizedadmin @ 12:07 pm

For those who don’t know exactly what Manuka Honey is, it’s a premium, medical-grade honey that is derived from the nectar of the flowers that grow on the Manuka Tea Tree, which is indigenous to New Zealand.  Honey of any floral source has been found to contain a certain degree of healing properties.  However, it has been discovered that Manuka Honey has the most and is more suitable for medicinal use.   It is important to know, however, that not all Manuka Honey is medical-grade.  Each batch of Manuka Honey has varied levels of healing properties.  In New Zealand, where Manuka Honey is produced and packaged, reputable honey suppliers perform laboratory tests to ensure the antibacterial potency of their honey.  One common rating system measures the antibacterial potency on a scale from 0-30.  This rating system, known as UMF or Unique Manuka Factor, is comparable to the percentage of the antibacterial activity of phenol.  For example, Manuka Honey UMF 10 is equivalent to a 10% solution of phenol.   The higher the UMF rating, the higher the Manuka Honey’s antibacterial potency.  Only Manuka Honey UMF 10 or higher is considered to be active and suitable for therapeutic use.  Although, extraordinarily potent Manuka Honey (i.e. 20+) is somewhat unnecessary and overkill.  A good medium range UMF rating is most desirable (i.e. UMF 16).  A low UMF rating (i.e. UMF 9 or less) may not have the curative qualities that most people expect from Manuka Honey.   There are some doctors and medical professionals that feel the majority of health conditions are caused by some type of infectious microorganism (i.e. bacteria, virus, fungus or parasite). What makes Manuka Honey so effective is that it is antibacterial, antiviral, anti-fungal and anti-parasitic.  Therefore, it is safe to assume that any health complication that is caused by one of these pesty, little microbes can be effectively combated (i.e. ulcers, infections, ringworm, lice, etc.).   “Since Manuka Honey is a natural ingredient, it has been found to have no negative side effects when used for medical purposes,” says Frank Buonanotte, CEO of Honeymark International, which is a manufacturer of Manuka Honey products.  “Even the most resilient bacteria are no match for Manuka Honey’s unparalleled antimicrobial properties, such as MRSA and VRE.”    Manuka Honey is gaining worldwide recognition for its amazing healing ability.  Manuka Honey can be taken orally or used topically on the skin.  Just as long as it comes in direct contact with the affected area, it will yield immediate results.   Manuka Honey is being considered the ultimate natural healer by many and, in most cases, can outperform antibiotics and traditional forms of medicine.  For more information or to purchase Manuka Honey and Manuka Honey products, call 1-866-427-7329 or visit www.HoneymarkProducts.com.
